I'm trying to reset the voicemail password for the operator's extension. Our former receptionist was let go and no one had her VM password. I figured I would just initialize it, but when I try to log in after initializing, it tells me "incorrect login". Is there a 'default' password? I've done this successfully on other mailboxes without a problem.

System is Merlin Mail release 3.

thanks in advance,

-Dave

exsmonger,

I tried 1234, but no go. Since my system requires 6-digit minimum passwords, I tried 123456 too. In the past when I've initialized mailboxes, the first login only needs a # for a password and then the system immediately asks you to set a password.

Does it make a difference that this is my operator's extension as opposed to a 'standard' mailbox?

-Dave

Are you referring to mailbox 9997? To reset this mailbox you call the voicemail, enter mailbox 9997, and at the password prompt enter the 6-digit serial number on the Merlin Mail. A voice prompt will say "Goodbye." Recycle power on the Merlin Mail. After it reboots the mailbox 9997 passwords are reset to 1234.

Brian,

It's not the 9997 mailbox. Let me first say I'm not real experienced with phone systems. Don't assume that I know a whole lot! :p

With that said, my receptionist was (is) set up on extension 100, which on my admin console is listed as one of two operators. (the 2nd operator). The 9997 mailbox is the 'general mailbox', yes? That's the one I login with when making changes to the voicemail. 9997 and the 100 mailbox are not the same on my system.

-Dave

9997 is the ADMIN Mailbox.

9991, 9992 & 9993 are General Mailboxes.

Are you able to access 9997, ADMIN?

If so, that should allow you to reset the password.

If not, how are you trying to do this?

Also, when a mailbox has been reset, it does indeed revert to NOTHING, so a # (Pound Sign) gets you in.

I log into the voicemail system with 9997, enter the password, choose option 9 and enter the 2nd password for system administration.

I choose option 4 (mailboxes), option 6 (modify mailbox), enter mailbox number (100#), option 3 (initialize mailbox), it tells me the mailbox has been initialized, then I hit *# to finish modifying the mailbox.

I disconnect and call back into voicemail, enter my extension (100#) and then # for the password and it tells me login incorrect. Passwords I've tried include 111111, 1234, 123456, 987654.

Thanks for the quick replies!

-Dave

First, check the CLASS OF SERVICE for this mailbox.

If it something in the 1 to 14 range, or 18 to 20, I think you are at the point of deleting this mail box and starting over.

If it is COS 15 to 17, then it's set as an auto attendant, and therefore, NO ACCESS ALLOWED, no password either.

Merlinman,

The COS on this mailbox is 15. If I understand what you are saying, there is no way to get into this mailbox without the original password? If that is the case, have I messed anything up by repeatedly initializing the password?

Or does your comment of NO ACCESS ALLOWED mean that people can't even leave a voicemail there?

thanks!

-Dave

No, that's not what I am saying at all.

The EXTENSION Designated as COS 15, for auto attendant DOES NOT HAVE A REAL MAILBOX with a PASSWORD.

Any changes you wish to make to the AUTO ATTENDANT are done thru ADMIN programming of the AUTO ATTENDANT itself.

From the MAIN SYSETM ADMIN MENU, Choose 3 to admin AA and then select the one you wish to admin, in this case 1. Then select Day or Night, and go from there.

The Extension with COS 15 is just a way to steer a call to auto attendant with an Extension number.
