Hi All,

Hope someone can help me with this one. As I've not familiarized with Cisco stack configuration

I got a pair of 3750's that are currently stacked and due to some changes on the network design. They'll need to be unstacked.

My question is, what would be the proper process to remove this stack, without affecting the network or the switches configuration? I just want to plan if I I'll have downtime or it's just seamless for the hosts on the network.

This switches currently have the native vlan defined only.

I've read the Cisco theory behind the stack configuration, but it doesn't describe a procedure on how to completely remove stack. From what I read there's one configuration, one mac addres table and one routing table for the stack.

Thanks in advance.

you can just switch off the stack member you wish to remove, and then unprovision it using the command:

no switch <stack number> provision <switch model>

Example:

To remove switch number 2 from a stack. The model number of the switch is WS-C3750G-48T:

3750(config)# no switch 2 provision ws-c3750g-48t
3750(config)# exit
3750# write memory

Great Thanks North!

To be honest I though it was going to be a more complicated process. But it sound pretty simple. So if I understood correclty, it's pretty much:

a) Shutdown Slave.
b) Unprovision Slave from the Master.
c) Disconnect all StackWise Cables from both switches.
d) Shutdown Master?

Inquiries:

What's going to happen to the Slave when I restarted, is it going to have the stack config or is it going to be erased?

How about the MAster switch how to I unprovision the Master? I did a show start on it and the stack config seems to be saved into it the start config. How to I erase that from the switch?

I really appreciate your reply.

Thanks a lot!

Personally, I would simply disconnect the 2nd switch from the stack, reconfigure it with its new config, and then install it wherever it is you want it.

The original "stack" will continue to work seamlessly no matter how many times you add/remove stack members from it including reducing the "stack" down to a single switch.

I'll go ahead and give it a shot.

Thanks once again for all your help.
