Dear reader,

on my desktop there exist besides the well-known icons
MY COMPUTER, RECYCLE BIN, NETWORK NEIGHBORHOOD ... also
an 'image' called MSN Easysurfer which I want do delete.
But this image(icon?) does'nt respond to any mouse click.
Nevertheless is there any chance to remove this image, perhaps via a registry modification?

Many thanks in advance for your help!

Have you tried the following ?
- start, run, command prompt
- go to c:\winnt\profiles\all users
- del shortcut name.lnk

@jyw:

There is no such file related to the MSN EASYSURFER picture

Is it definitely an icon (eg, can you move it on the desktop?). Common prank is to change someones wallpaper to include one or more icons in the picture - leading to very 'amusing' puzzlement.

@wolluf:

Yes, I can move this picture, icon but when I
left click-right click this icon the message
"Create_shortcut" appears.
Doing this for examples with the Recycle Bin icon
then a new small window is opened with the entries

Open
Explore Find
.
.
Properties

as expected.

Just right click on the icon, or select it and press the delete key on the keyboard.

Or just drag it into the recycling bin ?

@Grenage:

Right click on the icon says: Create_Shortcut
No chance to delete

SOLVED!!!!!

1. Searched for msn.*
2. find msn.cms (Installation/Deinstallation script)
in %systemroot%\profiles\All Users\...
3. used commands in msn.cms to delete registry entries

That's it!!

MSN EASYSURFER looks to be MSN ISP in Germany - so icon is probably based in the registry (is there any reason this should be on your machine?). You could try installing tweakui to see if it appears in the list under desktop tab (which if it does might allow you to untick box to stop displaying it). Or someone here will know registry location of such entries.

Tweakui:-
