I'm trying to remove a child domain from AD. The confusing question comes when I'm running DCPROMO at the child domain server:

Should I check the box indicating that the server is the last domain controller in the domain?

Not checking it seems to indicate the child domain server will be demoted to a member server that is still in the domain. I want the child domain and any references removed from the parent AD.

Thanks

I am guessing this is a controlled lab environment. If so and you havent made any significant settings on the parent DC, go ahead and select the box that says the last DC controller in the domain. Get into trouble then see if you can think, and work your way out. even if you select the box You wont be able to do it b/c it is not the parent. all that is saying is if it is the last DC all domain settings will be lost ie, domain accounts, etc. basically everything on the domain side of things.
