The small part (188 206 301) fell out of my Phaser 840 media tray - the machine says "replace media tray" when I start it up, and I'm not sure this part (loose) is part of the problem. Any help in describing where this part fits would be helpful. Thanks.
yes this would give you the replace media tray. Take a small piece of thin card board and a piece of scotch tape and tape it across the top hole. Be careful to only cover the top hole. This will get you bye until you can order the new piece. When the piece falls out it usually breaks the tabs on the back side.
I seem to have the same problem. I am sorry, but I don't know what top hole to cover. Where can I get this part. Does anybody have any instructions on how to replace this part.
The part you are referring to is call a tray sense plug. The part number is 214459501, if Xerox had a heart they would just send them to you, but they dont so people must dole out about a buck plus shipping for a small piece of plastic. In any event if you get one they are placed in the top hole on the side of the media tray, there are 3 spots one on top of the other. The top hole indicates to the printer that letter size paper is in the tray. If no holes are plugged the printer thinks there is no tray in place and will ask you to install it. If you dont want to bother with Xerox you can take a piece of paper or card stock fold it up so that it has some stiffness and tape it in place on the tray so that it only covers the top hole. This will trip the switch and do the same thing as replacing the tray plug.
