How to reinput my serial number 1

My Macbook pro does not have the serial number show up anymore in system profiler. Can I manually put it back it, is this configurable?

Did you recently have you MBP worked on? This will occur when a logic board is replaced and there is a tool that you can use to reset the SN (one time only). However, you do not want to do this unless it is a new logic board.

Thanks I did is thi sthe same tool that I've seen on some web posts on customizing the sn and other details in the same window. What is the tool that can be used, can I download it or is it purchase only?

Could you not tote it over to an Apple Store and get one of the Geniuses to do this for you? (Prior booking may be required).

You cannot re input your serial back into the mac as this is done at the factory. Burned into the EPROM at that point.
You need to keep a record of your serial either on hard media or put it on a sticker and put it somewhere like underneath the battery (So it wont get rubbed off with time).

I questioned this very issue at a Apple training course I attended a few months ago.. well about a year now.
