Hello, this is my first post on this board, and I need some help reformatting an AiX box that I have.

The problem is, that i seem to have completely lost the password to log in as root, and I have an ip script running that completely locks the computer on boot up.

So, how do I reformat AiX? Or, how can i bypass the script?

Thanks.

If you have the OS CD. Here is a procedure you can use to reset roots password to something that you know.

1. Boot from CD to maintenance mode.
2. cd to /etc/security
3. passwd (set desired password)
4. remove the CD from the drive
5. Reboot the system.

Hope this helps. Haven't done it for some years but it worked when I needed it.

I second what kclute said that should take care of your problem and spare you from having to reload the system with a new OS or backup image.
