How to redirect publc folders

I've tried to redirect public folders (public desktop, public documents,) to an other drive by editing registry: 'User shell folders' and 'Shell folders' under HKLM.

1) Do I need to redefine the environment variable %Public% ?

2) Special public folder displayed in windows explorer is still linked to old location. Can someone explain that?
