We are currently in the process of building a test Windows NT4 environment. Can anyone tell me how I can replicate the SAM database from our live PDC to the new test PDC and if so which files do I have to copy from the live PDC to the test PDC

Thanks for th help

Hi,

You can user any backup software that backup the registry (ntbackup should be ok).
- Install a new PDC
- backup and restore the registry (if possible only the SAM) from your live PDC to your test PDC (your test network must be isolated from your live network)
- You have your test PDC

Other possibility :
- Install your test server as a BDC of your live domain
- Isolate it from your live network !!!!
- Promote the BDC to a PDC
Once more you have a live-like PDC which can be use for testing purpose.

This is the strategy used for testing Widows 2000 migrations.
