Hi,

The default arrangements should be like the Project on top of Property and the Code window on the right. Somehow I screwed up somewhere and the project window spread across the whole screen and the Property and Code stay side by side under Project, which I don't like. I want the default but I cannot go back. If I press Cntl+R can only make the Project appear and disappear and it won't stay on the left.

I tried Tools->Options->Docking... and View and so on but no luck.

Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Thanks for replying. But it's still not working. I tried Tools > Options > Docking before but it did not work (I talked about that in my first email).

"Undock them all, then drag to wherever you want em". I tried that too. I can certainly do the drag&drop after undock all and select "Window->Tile Vertically". But as I tried to max the code window, expecting the Project and Properties to stay on the left-hand side but code window will occupy the whole screen. If I want to see the P and P windows, I have to re-do the drag&drop.

Before I screwed up, the default arrangements will be P and P windows on the left and code on the right. No matter how you max or min the code, the left-hand side won't change. Now I cannot go back where I was.

Thanks again.

IMO this is one of the most annoying (and very poorly done) aspects of the VBE. I sympathize.

I just duplicated your problem and it took me 10 minutes of wriggling to get things back. It ain't easy.

With the windows floating, assuming the VBE is maximized, and assuming you want Project Explorer at the top...

1. carefully slam the Project window to the left CLOSE to, but NOT at, the toolbar. It should become "full" left - covering top to bottom at the left.

2. carefully drag the Properties window to just below the title bar of the Project Explorer. If all goes well, the Project window SEEMS to disappear, but there is a wee bit showing.

3. carefully find the location of the double vertical arrow marking the separation between Project and Properties and drag to fit the size you want.

Part of the annoying thing is that when you drag the Project or Properties windows the GUI does not show them in the transition states. So it is very easy to butt up to the toolbar and then - boom - the VBE defaults to horizontality and you have to start all over again.

If this works then the code windows, when max fill the screen to the right of the Project and Properties.

Good luck.

Thanks Fumei for your time! I'll definitely give it a try, and I'll let you know what happens. It sounds right. As a last resort, and stupid approach: I'll have to re-install Excel in case your way is not working.

Take care.

Yikes! Reinstall Excel just to get the VBE working as you like? Seems extreme. I hope it works for you. As stated I really do sympathize. One time I struggled for almost a day trying to get it back. As a possible hint, do not mess with your Project and Properties windows. If you really really need to get them out of the way, close them, and get them back using the shortcut keys.

Hi Fumei,

Thanks again for your reply. I really tried, following what you recommended. As I maxed the code window, the Project and Property windows disappear and the code window occupied the whole screen. If it behaves normally, the code window will expand about 2/3 of the screen on the right and keep the P and P windows where they are (on the left). But it's not happening.

I agree with you about not messing with P and P windows. As a matter of fact, I did not. It was an accident but I cannot recall what I did so there is no way of undoing it.

Yes, right now I have no choice but to use shortcut keys to toggle around. I don't like it but I have no choice.

Take care.

Try to persist. As stated I really DID duplicate the problem, and I really DID fix it.

Did you get one of the P and P windopws to go fully vertical? Do NOT maximize the code window first.

If you get one of the P&P windows to max (fully vertical) then you should be able to attach the second P window to it. It is NOT intuitive, and you have to be careful. Even now, I can duplicate the problem, and even knowing how to get it back, it takes me three or four tries to actually do it.

But it CAN be done.

Close the code window first so you do not have to deal with it. Keep trying to gently tug oe of the P $ P to the left side.
