How to prompt user to enter selection value 1

I am new to Crystal Reports and want to prompt the user to enter the selection criteria for the report. Only one field will be necessary to select on and it will be a string type.
How/where do I setup the prompt?

1 create a new Parameter field.
2open the selection expert and have select the filed you want to filter on and have it go against the Parameter field (it will be the ?WhatEverYouNamedTheField)
