We just had someone Term Served into our box who shut it down. Is there any to set up a security setting so that only a certain user can actually shut down a server?
Remember that a terminal server access is the same as a local user being logged on. You need to set the local server policy to restrict shutdown to the local admin group (which the domain admn already belongs to). Otherwise, the use of an OU would have to be built to be an OU of users allowed to access the server, and you would need to have two different groups, those that could and those that could not shut it down.
However, what if the person who shut it down was and admin?????
Definitely the solution to that problem but does anyone have any idea as to how to do that with users logging into a Novell server with a client on the Windows 2000 server? Not running AD because of Novell (not wanted but already here and in place from a vendor). I have had the same problem with some of our users but I do not want them to restart or shutdown the server. Any help would be appreciated and I apologize for adding more to the thread but this problem seemed to fit.
The Admin Tools -> Local Security Settings -> Local Policies -> User Rights Assignments -> Shut down the system resolved my issue for this forum. Thanks!
