How to Password Protect a CD

Is there some way to password protect a CD, so that you cannot access any of the files on the CD without a password. I know you can password protect individual Word, Excel etc. files from within the application, but I am hoping to password protect access to the entire CD.
Thanks

It kind of depends what you will put on it.
If it is just data, zip it and password protect the zipfile.
But don't get a false sense of security, anything they want to access, they WILL access!
So, you need to ask yourself, why do I want to password protect it?
Is it such a sensible info that will be on there?

I understand that nothing is totally foolproof. There are sensitive data files on the CD. I am now using Save As in Word and Excel and using a password for each file. I was hoping there might be a way to protect the entire CD to save me these extra steps.

I use winzip to zip the files into one and then an encryption app to close it up and password protect with high encryption. Once again it depends on the reasons you want to protect them, if they want them open, they will get them open!

Using some sort of encryption is probably your best option, then burnning the encrypted files to disk, they would eseentialy only be able to be restored on the machine they were made on...not a great solution, but its possible i suppose.

that's true you could use a program like pgp.
BUT if something should happen to your os to where you have to reinstall the os that cd is no-good

PGP works well for protection but requires some extra 'work' and software, and don't loose the key or that data won't be easily recoverable.

ZIP passwords don't really work. Anyone can download ZIP password cracks from download.com which work in minutes or seconds.

I'm pretty sure I read that Roxio 7 has this feature.

Actually, I just checked the Roxio page and here's the feature:

Schedule regular back-ups of your important folders – then secure your disc with encryption and password protection

I would assume that you encrypt your data if you simply burned a cd (not a "backup) as well.

I use the SiFEU freeware encryption package. very simple to use just do a search on google. Encrypt the files and put the SiFeu app on the cd with the files, that way you can put it on any machine you want to read the files from. But only you will know the key
