how to output colored text with a simple puts 1

I've tried everything, but I can output a string with a specific color assigned to it.

Is any one familiar with that?

Note that this is a tcl only script, I'm not using tk at all.

puts "Why not \033\[34mG\033\[31mo\033\[33mo\033\[34mg\033\[32ml\033\[31me\033\[0m first ?"

Works on Linux.

Those are ANSI escape sequences. No idea about the original documentation, but Wikipedia has a good explanation :
