Hi:

I increased the size of my production SQL Server 2000 tempdb hoping to improve performance, but the performance got worse because of memory shortage. Now I can't get tempdb smaller using ALTER DATABASE. How can I return to the initial size of tempdb?

Thanks.

Lookup DBCC ShrinkFile and DBCC ShrinkDatabase in Books Online. These two commands should help you out.

You could also delete the tempdb, and SQL server will re create it when you start it again.

Stop and start your SQL Server services. That deletes the TEMPDB and rebuilds it based on Model.
