I have an NT 4 server machine and a Win98 machine. I have been trying to make them see each other. Each of the machine has a NIC with a crossover cable connected to it. I used the IP address (123.123.0.1) for the server and (123.123.0.2) for Win98. The Domain name on both machines are the same. I still couldn't make them see each other. Can someone help?

First of all, what do you mean by cross-over cable? Are you using standard RJ45 connectors on CAT5 cable? If the cable is okay and the drivers for the cards are loaded up fine then you should be able to ping each IP address.
I hope this helps...

Running straight from machine to machine with no Ethernet transceiver then you do need a crossed cable, but a straight one if you go through a switch/hub.

So, I went to the server manager on NT 4 server and try to add new user but as soon as I opened the server manager window I got this window saying "No domain path was found. Would you like to find or create another one?". I don't know what that means cause the domain was created on the NT 4 server during the installation. Can anyone explain?

you will receive this message if your nic is not configured correctly. You may want to check to see if you nic is blinking when connected to the other machine. Your machine is telling you it can't get out to the domain, so why should I control it.

Make your server to be a DHCP server and enable WINS resolution. Set up DHCP scope for a range of IP address excluding the IP of your server. Setup your win98 machine to obtain IP address automatically and enable "Use DHCP for WINS resolution". I hope this helps.

Thank you all for your input. I reinstalled NT server and this time the nic was configured properly. (ejstrom was right about the nic). Now, both machines can share files through the network neighborhood. My next question is, can NT server audit a win98 machine?
