how to make non-standart HDD controler work

Dear everyone,
I've got a IDE controller on a sound card and somehow Linux doesn't recognise it. what shall I do?

That connector is for a CD-ROM drive. I've never tried to connect a hard-drive to one of those.

I know its unsuual but it works fine under windows95, so I guess it could work under Linux as well...
