Use the ODE, or whatever it is called now. Search the forums for ODE to find more Peter Meachem

You can't actually compile an Access database into an executable application. You can, however, purchase the developer kit which will allow you to create a setup package that will install a royalty-free runtime version of Access, if the user does not already have Access. It works quite well -- I use both the 97 and 2000 developer kits. Rob Marriott

Hi Robi!

As Rob points out, the Microsoft solution to distributing MS application-generated files to non-Office users is the "viewer" concept -- limited functionality versions of the applications. Essentially, the user installs the viewer and can then view or use the file without being able to make modifications to the file itself. This works pretty well, especially for Word and PowerPoint.

Long term, if you are going to be doing a lot of standalone applications, you might want to think about developing directly in Visual Basic.

BTW, the PowerPoint viewer can be sent to non-Office users using the Pack 'n Go wizard. The Word and Excel viewers can be downloaded from the MS site.
