Hi gurus,

I'm using Windows XP Home Edition on my laptop. I would like to know how to lock my computer if incase i want to leave it running for awhile and don't want to have it in standby mode or hybernate. I tried to press control-alt-delete but it went right through task manager. And also I would like to remove the startup and shutdown sound, how can I do that? Pardon for my ignorance, am not much of a windows user.

Appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.

Cheers.

Try the Windows key + L.
You will need to have passwords for this to be effective.

To turn off the startup sound, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
In Control Panel, double-click the Sounds and Audio Devices icon.
Click the Sounds tab.
Under Program events, click Start Windows.
In the Sounds box, click (None), and then click OK.

Do the same for logon or logoff.

You may need to be logged on as an Administrator.
