I have a solaris 2.5.1 ,sparc workstation 20,
2 Internal disks,
1. c0t1d0 <SUN2.1G cyl 2733 alt 2 hd 19 sec 80>
2 c0t3d0 <SUN2.1G cyl 2733 alt 2 hd 19 sec 80>
and a external CD_driver is c0t6,

It work well, but when I link a external disk to the
box, no matter what ID I set to the external disk, the
sparc20 work station can't reboot,
it said , wait ARP/RARP , sth

it can boot at all, when disconnect the external disk
it will reboot normally,

what is reason,

Thanks very much ,

Check to see if the external disk is terminated. SCSI chains have to be terminated to work. You can use probe-scsi at the OK> prompt before booting the system to see if the drive is being recognised.

Thanks very much,

You mean in openboot , we
can disable external disk and
how to do ? I can't find this in openboot
document ,

Thanks

Hi,

I don't know if your problem has been solved, but have you checked the target numbers on the external box. It looks like the internal targets are set to 1 and 3, the external drive will have to be something different.

The probe-scsi command from the openboot prompt will tell you what devices you have connected. If you can't see all the devices, this will give you a clue to where your problem may be.

I usually reset auto-boot? to false when I'm trying to trouble shoot a booting problems. This way you can type reset-all at the openboot. You can do the same by turning the system off/on.

Connect the external drive making sure it has been terminted and has a unique target it. If the box is already on type in reset-all. After the system resets, execute the probe-scsi command. If you have more than one controller cards in the box, you may have to type in probe-scsi-all to see the external devices.

If you still can't see the box, check your cableing.

Good Luck

Grace
