Dear all,

I have an assigmnent of making a database in Access 2003. I have to use VBA for this but I have no knowledge about it. for example I don't know all the expressions like:
Dim iItemName As Integer. Can anyone give me a link where I can learn the very basic codes, what they mean etc? Or what reading material will ben useful for me?

Thanks in advance =)

Since you're in MS Access, you might get better responses in forum705.

@ TonyJollans

I'm an intern at an engine designing company. When a customer wants to start a new project here, they usually want an estimation how much it will costs. They will give up the specs of the engine they would like to have and the project manager will look back in former projects how much components costed back then. He has to look back in more then 1 project because for example a crankcase can be made out of different materials and different production method. The prices are different. So he wants me to build some database where he can select components that the client has defined and for those components there will be an estimation of the expected costs. With the standard buttons in Access this is not possible as far as I understand but it's possible to do this when you use vba.

@ SkipVought

"Standard buttons"

???

What you need to do is query your historic data based on the criteria related to the engine specs.

I would not think that a lick of VBA would be necessary.

I would agree, based on what has been posted.

DTLe,

I wasn't asking just to be difficult. Whilst VBA certainly has its uses, Access is pretty powerful all on its own and, until you identify a real need, I wouldn't bother with VBA (unless you want to - which I can certainly understand :))

Enjoy,
Tony
