Here's what I know.

1. my home network in a win 2000 server (c/w domain controller)
2. 12 clients attached to domain.
3. wife's laptop (winxp) is used at two locations
loc 1 win2k domain loc 2 - win 2000 workgroup
4. XP laptop needs to connect to workgroup to access files
and printer while at work and connect to domain resources

How do I get permission for the laptop on the two networks.

The last employer set up laptop at work and could log in at work and see domain at home.

I think it is just a permission issue with Win2k since we tried to join just the win2k workgroup and abandon the domain and it failed aswell

Any thoughts?

Thanks

David

xp machine can only belong to domain OR workgroup - not both. But if logon credentials (username/password) for the xp laptop exist as a domain username too - then laptop will have same permissions on domain. Conversely, if other machines in workgroup have laptops credentials set up as user on each machine, laptop will have access to workgroup shared resources.

Options:-

1. Leave laptop as member of workgroup and set up its user credentials on your home domain. Laptop will then be able to access shared domain reources - but can't logon to domain (probably best mapping drives/folder, installing printers from the doamin on the laptop).

2. Make laptop member of home domain and then set up user on other workgroup machines with same credentials. Laptop should then be able to access workgroup shared resources (you can't 'logon' to a workgroup).

In either case typing \\machinename (where machinename is from domain or workgroup) in run box will give you explorer window with shares available for that machine.

You've not mentione IP addreses, so assuming both use DHCP and machine picks up address automatically.

Thanks

I will give both suggestions a try and let you know
