Where can I find some useful detailed instructions on how to install Linux on my laptop that already has Windows XP HOME EDITION?

I think that the installation can re-size a FAT32 partition, but not NTFS. The 2.6 kernel is supposed to handle NTFS better, but I don't know to what extent.

If you want to run both Linux & windows at the same time then use vmware.

Last time I did this (a few weeks ago) I used the SystemRescueCD to re-partition my hard drive and give me some space for linux. I think Windows (XP pro) is still ok as I have the windows partition mounted from Linux and often grab files from it. I couldn't tell you if it booted all the way up ok though, haven't bothered now that i have Linux on it. I did let it boot partially into Windows once and it wanted to do a checkdisk, but I was to lazy to let it waste my time with that and rebooted back into Linux, so if there is a problem I don't know about it.
