How to install top command? 2

Hi ,

I am new to the solaris adminstration and have my new<old> sun ultra 5/10 server with solaris 9 installed on it.

I need to know where I can download top command and how to install.

Any links or instructions will be useful.
Please advise.

I thought top was included in the Solaris 9 media? Alternatively, go to

http://www.sunfreeware.com

and download the compiled package. The instructions are on that site too.

Looks like the main site is down, try one of the mirrors, for example:

May be - I will try that after some times since even the mirrored site has a problem when downloading the top command.

I have another system, can I just copy the top command into my server?
BTW, what kind of commands on solaris can just be copied from one system to another.

Try another mirror site, see the "FTP/Mirror sites" link on the left hand side.

You may be able to copy it from another system, but it's not a good habit. Try it and see!

I think there was a thread some time ago where someone tried to do this (copying from another system) and failed miserably. There's another Sun freeware site somewhere on the web, but I'll be danged if I can remember the address!!

Hi Ken,

I have downloaded the file and gunzip'ed it. Now I have
top-3.5.1-sol9-sparc-local file.

Should I use the pkgadd to install this?

Yes, that should be all that's required. I suggest you man pkgadd first, and pay particular attention to the -d option. Good luck.
