How to install JVM on NS 7.01 for RH 8

Just installed NS 7.01 on RH 8.0.

It doesn't come with the JVM, if you click on a Java app in the browser it takes you to the link for the JVM download on Sun's site. You can either get the "self extracting RPM" or simply the "self extracting file", both for Linux.

I downloaded the j2re-1_4_1_01-linux-i586-rpm.bin file.

How do you install this?
Do you run (install) it? "./j2re*.bin"
You can't rpm it...

Any help will be appreciated.

Ok, you have to chmod a+x the bin file, then run it as root. That uncompresses the .rpm version of it. Then I installed the rpm, but I still have no Java support in NS 7.01. I found a hint online that suggested to add a line to the .bash_profile, which I did, but that still didn't do anything.

Log out completely, and log back in as root.

Then start your Netscape or Mozilla browser and go to this URL:

http://cgi.netscape.com/cgi-bin/pi_moreinfo.cgi?PID=10048

It takes some time, but should install without any problems.
