How to insert space in Detail Section 2

Hi All,
I have group instruments, In the detail section of that group, there is a collection date field, The issue here is how to insert a space between those dates if they are different.

Ex:
Current state
Instrument ABC(Group Field)
12/01 (Collection Date)
12/01
12/03
12/04
12/04
Desired result
Instrument ABC
12/01
12/01

12/03

12/04
12/04

One way would be to create a second detail sction detail b and use a suppression formula to hide/show this section.

i.e.

Onfirstrecord or
{collection_date} <> previous({collection_date})

It might be a little easier to group on collection date, then hide that group header.
