How to import .mbx into Outlook 2000 on XP?

I recently backed-up all my email from Outlook 2000. All the email was saved in .mbx and .idx folders.

When importing however, it requires .pst files. I tried to copy the .mbx to Outlook Express (thinking I could then import into Outlook), but I can't find where it saves the folders under XP Pro. I looked under:

\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft

and

\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft

but there are no Outlook Express folders.

Under \Program Files\Outlook Express\ there are files, but not email files. I have email in my Outlook Express folders, but I don't know where they are saved.

I looked in similar locations, but I could only find the "outlook.pst" file that goes with Outlook. I tried to put the .mbx files there, but Outlook ignores them.

I found the .dbx files Express uses, and tried putting the .mbx files there (even renaming them to .dbx), but nothing worked.

So can anyone answer either of these questions:

1) How do I import .mbx files into Outlook 2000 under XP?

or

2) How do I import .mbx files into Outlook Express under XP?

.mbx files appear to be for the Eudora Mail Client. (did a search for this) I think your best option would be to install Eudora, open the mail files and make sure everything is there. Then under Outlook: File Import/Export/Internet Mail and Addresses option and you should have an option to import from Eudora.

Let me know what happens.

Hope this helps!

The .mbx files could be either Eudora or OE4. I am assuming you have OE running on your computer.

To locate your storage location in OE click File - Properties and it will say where your files are being stored.

To import the .mbx files Files - Import then try OE4 format first and if this does not work try Eudora.
