hi there,
i setup a wireless network for two friends of mine was not able to get wpa-psk working on one of the two computers.
i digged throu tons of threads in dozenz of boards and the most common answer was: "win 98 and wpa? no way!". hopefully your hints might be more productive.

the network configuration:
1 w-lan router
1 win xp pc with usb-wlan antenna
1 win 98 laptop with same usb-wlan antenna

connected antenna to xp-pc - working
installed driver - working
entered wpa-key - working encrypted

connected antenna to 98-laptop - working
installed driver - working
entered wpa-key - NOT working (found network with hidden ssid, got fine signal, didnt authenticicate)

changed router-settings to no encryption
repeated procedure on 98-laptop from scratch - WORKING unencrypted

see the problem?
i made usb working on win 98
i made device working fine (unencrypted!)
but i was not abled to use wpa-psk

by the way: checked password, ssid, ip, mac-filter and all other settings more then twice.

any suggestions? would apreciate every kind of help.

ps.: excuse my low-leveled english :)

yeah, found that today and tryed it out but get it working with NO networkconnection whatsoever was pretty painfull! i built some (6 or 7) zipped floppies to get that thing over to the laptop and installed it. result: win 98 was asking for updates from microsofts website - sigh!

but thanks anyway.

You should get your connection working unenecrypted first and download/install the original software package. I'm not sure how you divided it using floppies but that could be a part of your problem.
I understand the program never installed correctly or it just didn't work?

about the end of the installationprocess the WPAAssistant-installer said, windows 98 needs to be updated for some security-reason.

that, of course, turned out to be a problem with no network/internet.

thanks for your continued help.

i decided to apply a portable cd-rom-drive to that laptop, install windows 2000 and try to get it working with that OS.

hopefully less trouble. :)
