I have tried everything; how do you get rid of that pesky Windows Messenger at startup?

Click Start, Run...then Copy and paste
"RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove"

(without the quotes) into the run box and click ok. A status bar will pop up and after you reboot your system it should be gone

open windows messenger. click tools> options> preferences. then uncheck the 3 boxes in the general section. click ok, and you're done.

hope this helps.

OR....
Edit file C:\windows\inf\sysoc.inf
Find the line: "msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7" and delete the "hide" leaving the commas. This will return messenger to the add/remove windows components.
Also works with other 'hidden' windows components.

A problem with Windows??? Never...

thanks! just out of curiosity, is there anything else worth un-hiding in the sysoc file?
