I have a windows 2000 server with two nics and ICS turned on. One nic connects to my broadband connection, one to my internal lan. Everybody on the lan can connect and surf out no problem. Now I am trying to add a modem to the server so a dial up user can access the internet. I have installed Routing and Remote access - went through the wizard - etc. My user at home can connect successfully to the server, but cannot surf the internet at his home. He can only see the web site running on the server, and then only by using its internal ip address of 192.168.0.1 - I did a ipconfig /all on the home computer while connected and it showed the following:

PPP adapter Connection to SERVER1:

DHCP enabled: No
IP Address: 192.168.0.15
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.255
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.15
DNS Server: 127.0.0.1
Netbios: Disabled

The computer at home is running Win2K pro. Now my guess is the IP address is ok, but the mask needs to be 255.255.255.0, and the gateway and dns need to be 192.168.0.1 (the server). I have made as many changes to both computers that I can think of to get this to work with no success. Please help.

Thanks,
Tort

You will also want to add the address of a valid DNS server to the win2k pro machine.

Did that - no good. It cant seem to route through to the external nic on the server.

In the properties for the dial-up connection, tell it to use the default gateway on the remote network. Marc Creviere

Tried that too....no good. might try it on a 98 machine to see if that helps.

Yeah, might also want to check your routing table (route print) and see if you have an entry for 0.0.0.0 that points to somewhere other than the default gateway. Marc Creviere
