Hey everyone, new to the forums here.
I've been trying to get my internet working thru my router.
I live in Australia, and my ISP is Telstra Bigpond. The modem i use is a Motorola Surfboard SB5100 Cable Modem.
Telstra uses a login to gain access to the internet. They provide a program which you enter you username and password into, a it connects.
All works well when it's connected to my laptop directly via ethernet.
Basiclly the objective of this is to run my laptop wirelessly via a Lainksys PCMCIA Wireless Card, but the first step i want to accomplish is to get my laptop to connect to the internet when running thru the router. Running the routers setup program is succesful (192.168.1.1). However, i'm no wiz at this so i only setup the basic stuff (username, password, keep alive) with the correct details. I'm pretty sure it's a PPPoE network (because of the login requirement). The router does not recognize the internet at all. It reports that it could not connect. Not only that, but the IP address that i get(in the side panel of the "Network Connections" window) when my modem is directly connected is someting like 144.136.42.16. But when the router is connected, the IP is reported at 192.168.1.1. Of course, the program that allows me to connect can't..because there is no valid IP given. Also, when running the setup CD, even when i'm connected to internet directly, it reports thats the computer isnt connected to the internet!! No idea whats goin on there, as i definetly is!!. I turned off the windows firewall and my normal Kerio firewall. Can anyone give me help on whats going on, and how to connect up this nightmare!!!
