We have a Norstar Nortel. I want to block or forward incoming calls to different extension because some the phones can be accessed by are production employees. What they are doing is having people call them on that extension from the outside. Instead of working they are chatting on the phone. I blocked where they can't get a outside line. Thanks for the help.

Do not have any lines Appear or Ring, set COS as restrictive as possible. (cameras will help pointed at user as they use phone) Invest in SMDR package and consider call logging.(call recording) And fire the first person found camping out on phone.

How can I have the phones not ring when a outside line comes in? What do you mean by COS as restrictive? Problem is the employees use it to call other ext in the plant so they don't have to walk across the plant. I already have a SMDR. That's how I found out about the incoming calls.

A great tech cannot take the place of employee supervision,
and corrective employee action.

I do not think that there is a way to prevent an incoming call from being transfered to a particular extension, whether the transfer is done by AA or LA (Live Attendent).

you can, however, remove the line ringing on a particular set in the Terminals$Sets-->Line access-->Line assignment-->then make the line not appear. Under Terminals&sets-->Restrictions-->Set Restrictions-->Filters you can assign a filter to the telephone set that will restrict outgoing calls but allow 911 calls. Look in the installers guide for complete explination of this service.

The thing to remember is that the phone system is designed to allow calls more than dis-allow calls

Believe me I would rather not take the place of employee supervision. I have been put into that place so I am just trying to figure out what to do.

I was looking at your profile when I was reading your question about connecting Norstars in the Nortel networking solutions, and found this question.

Regarding this one: If you don’t need those phones to receive internal calls either, you could put them on DND, and then change the set lock setting for that DN to “Full.” Once the set lock is enabled, they would not be able to disengage DND. Of course they would not hear internal calls ring either.- If that is a problem, you could set up an overhead/ horn paging system so that if you needed to talk to one of the employees at those phones you could page them to call you at extension XXX, instead of dialing them directly.

Regarding your other question about connecting two Norstar systems together: That is some advanced stuff, and I would definitely recommend getting an experienced vendor involved. I also think you might get more responses if you post it here, instead of the Networking forum.

If you do the above, also set "fwd on busy" to the VM DN, and "DND on busy" to yes so they don’t get a chance to answer it by seeing the blinking indicator.
