IE
Hope I can explain this simply.

I use multiple IE windows and while one is open or refreshing I will often click on a new link or favourite from the Links Toolbar. This used to be straightforward in that the new link would open in whichever Window I had selected. Now when I click on a new Link IE seems to decide arbitrarily on which window it will open in. Unfortunately this is usually one that I'm reading or want to leave untouched.

How do I force IE to open new links in a particular IE window? I'm currently using IE 6.0 and maybe my previous experience was confined to 5.5. I'm running Windows 2000 Pro.

Thanks,

Roy

This is a bug that bugs the hell out of me. I dual boot W98se and XP and is the reason I retained IE5.5 on W98se.

Its mentioned in the MSKB which recommends a crude fix: drag the link from the favorites onto the address bar of the page you want it to open on.

I'm flabbergasted that they havent fixed this in the IE6 SP1 just released.

Thanks very much Amenx.

Glad to know it's a bug and not me. It is amazing it hasn't been fixed. I'll have a look at the Knowledge Base.

Regards,

Roy

You can also change the option under TOOLS-INTERNET OPTIONS-ADVANCED

Uncheck Reuse windows for launching shortcuts and this will cause IE to launch a new window instead of arbitrarily using a window with an existing session.

It is not exactly fix what you want but at least you can circumvent the annoying behavior.
