Hi,

I know how to get the dataset attributes using REXX. But I want to capture the user who has viewed/edited the dataset last time using REXX?

Your help is much appriciated.

Thanks!!

How would you do this without REXX?

There is no way to guarantee this. . .

Thanks for reply!!

The members of a PDS shows, who has edited the member last time. That means the system stores it internally. Therefore I think there must be some way to retrive this info from the system.

Thanks!!

It shows who --changed-- it last, but stores no info about who viewed it (unless they also changed it). See ISPF Services -- LMMSTATS.

The members of a PDS shows, who has edited the member last time.
Only if statistics are turned on when the editing was done.

Also, many members are updated outside of the editor.

There is also no statistic to tell who viewed a menber.

That's right, there isn't. ISPF statistics (if available) will show you who updated it last, and when, but if the file is updated outside of ISPF, all bets are off. The VTOC only shows the last update date (not the time). If you want to know who viewed it, I'm afraid you are looking at interrogating SMF type 14 records, but even these only show non-VSAM opens, and you would have map the jobname back to a user. If you haven't looked ast SMF records before, they are pretty tricky to process...

That's why I originally asked him: "how would you do this without REXX?". If he didn't know about SMF before starting this effort, none of us will have the time to educate him adequately.
