i tried to install oracle in my system but it failed to install in win 2k so i thought of making dual partition with win 98 and win 2k.Hence i tried to format the hard disk which has an capacity of 40 GB in four partition. i tried to format c:\ drive. But it gave an error related to MBR and came out with our formating. Then when i booted the system it showed me an error message as invalid partition and no OS found. Then with the help of Disk Manager i formatted the hard disk. After formating the hard disk showed only 32 GB. The remaining 8 GB of hard disk is missing. my hard disk in Samsung Hard disk. Please guide me to recover the remaining 8 GB of hard disk.

Your post is a little confusing. Can you just give step by setep of what you did (for example, if you had win2k installed on a single 40GB partition, then without something like Partition Manager, you would have have to wipe the disk to create 4 partitions. So what did you do to achieve this - eg, boot from 98 boot floppy and use fdisk). What is Disk Manager? (Ontrack have some software called that, 2k has Disk Management..). Have you got an operating system installed now? Is the bios recognising the drive as 40GB? If you've totally wiped all data anyway, what happens if you boot from win2k install CD (to reinstall) - when you get to the partitioning bit? (ie, what does it show).

i just got an message that c drive could not be formatted due to some MBR problem. Then i tried to format the disk with the help win 2k server but it formatted upto 90% and then it came out. Then i used Disk Manager an utility of seagate hard disk for recovering data but it also failed. Then i once again tried with win 2k it formatted the disk but it showed only 32 GB instead of 40 GB.How can i recover that 8 GB space.
