Good day!

Hi guys! I would like to know if it is possible to know the serial number of an ibm machine using system information or elsewhere?
Coz I need to know the serial numbers of the clients which is connected to LAN.

Thanks.

Hi rexc,

I've never heard of getting the serial number of ANY computer, IBM included, over the network. In fact, I've never been able to get the serial number of a computer using software, even if the computer's sitting in front of me. I know that Dell embeds their service tag numbers (not serial numbers) somehow in their BIOS, but again, you can't read them off the net. You will probably have to go and look at the physical machine (cricking your neck and straining your eyes in the process)...

Good luck,

PIV Chips from Intel have a unique ID, as long as the oprion is turned on in the bios to allow it to be sent. But as far as computer serial #, nope, no way to get that without reading the physical # from the machine.

When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Usually IBM has it on a sticker. Now if you used the serial number for the computer name, you might be able to get that.

If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

Thanks guys!

I was just wondering if that is possible.
Because I've tried using the IBM website " and it does get my IBM computers serial number.
But I am not sure if it will work on non-IBM computers.

In case you will be able to figure out how to do it, please inform.

Thanks guys!
