Is there any way to find out when someone has actually send a mail. There is a creation time-stamp in the mail document properties, but I suppose this refers to the moment the mail is actually created. It can be send much later.
The second timestamp refers to the moment the mail is modified. Has this anything to do with the moment it is processed (like it being send?)

I have seen this happen when a user creates a message locally at an earlier time and sends the message. The message is stored locally until they replicate and then is mailed out with an earlier date stamp than when it was delivered. If you can derive the message ID from the document properties you could check the Notes log on the mail server for Mail Routing Events and it should show the time it was delivered from/to the server.

Sorry for my ignorance, but I am acting as backup for our Lotus specialist, so lots of stuff is new for me.

If someone would replicate his local mailbox with the central server can we then still trace mail that will be delivered to other staff through the notes log on the mail server?

Any mail sent via the Notes server, whether delivered to the notes server or out to the internet via the Notes server will show in the server's Notes Log. In the Notes Log select Mail Routing Events. This is a searchable database therefore you can use a search string for example message ID to search.

The easiest way to find the message id is to go into the document properties for the message in question and select the fields tab (triangle on tab)select the $orig field and the message id is the last 8 characters on the hex part at the bottom. Use this in the Notes Log to search the mail routing event log files for the date in question

Hope this helps
