I've set up Ethernet networking between two computers but I've only managed to work out how to share the internet connection.

How do I go about setting it up to share files between the computers?

I'm using XP Home. I've got folders and files in my Network Places, but they refuse to share. It's driving me insane.

Any help would be really appreciated

In that case, you need to follow the link above 1 click further - look for Windows XP Simple File sharing.

I've looked through that, but the computers still refuse to share files and I can't figure out why.

One thing to make sure of in XP... If you are using simple file sharing (as opposed to authenticated style sharing) you will have to enable the "guest" account on the computer with the share. Otherwise you will see the computer in "network neighbourhood" but it will say that there are no shares available.

The client account 'Guest' does not need to be inabled, and is irrelevant in both XP Home and Pro.

Explanation: There's a different Guest account setting that controls networked access to XP's shared disks and folders when simple file sharing is enabled. What needs to be enabled is the Group "Guest" rather than the user account with the name "Guest."

To enable networked access, enter this line at a command prompt:

net user guest /active:yes

To disable networked access, enter this line at a command prompt:

net user guest /active:no
