Hello all,

I'm running Exchange 5.5 on an NT40 domain. I have a need to generate a list of all the SMTP addresses that are setup on my Exchange box so I can create a firewall rule allowing all these addresses to pass through the firewall and nothing else.

Anyone know of any third party or other apps that can do this for me? Thanks!

That is build in.
In Exchange Sytem Manager, in one of the top menus (don't remember the exact one), there is an export function.

Why do you need a firewall rule? Can't you just let Exchange bounce unknown addresses?

I've got too many messages coming in addressed to a_abcd@domain.com, a_bcde@domain.com, a_cdef@domain.com, etc. I'm not sure who's sending them or why, but they are coming in at a rate of about 1000-2000 a day. Exchange bouncing them all is generating more network traffic and overhead for the exchange box, so I'd like to prevent the mail from ever coming through. The firewall blocks it from coming through and the sending mail server generates the bounce instead of a box on my system. Also, a number of these e-mails are infected with viruses. Granted the firewall strips 99.9% of these viruses, but better to prevent the problem before it happens.

Thanks for your help, I'll check out the export function.

But you can bounce them at the SMTP gateway, straight after the HELO. Almost no network traffic whatsoever. But fair enough

I was going to do something similar on our firewall or our content filter, but I found there is a problem when the valid address that is coming in as a BCC, it will block that email. Is there away around this?

oooh, that's a good question. I was planing on implementing this now, but maybe I'll wait until tonight. I'll keep the thread posted on how it goes. We're running a Watchguard Firebox II, that's where the SMTP proxy is located. We don't have an SMTP gateway.

We have a Watchguard X500 and use SCM for content filtering. Nether would allow email through if it was BCC, so I'll wait for other posts too because I'm curious.

What legitimate business email sends to your recipents as BCC addressees?

It is perfectly ok to send as BCC between businesses.
If I send an E-Mail to 5 or 6 customers, I BCC them all, I am not creating groups or mailmerges for every single mailing I need to do.

Well we're a ligitimate business for 30 years. There are BCC's here on rare occasions, but it does happen, so I'm just saying prepare for it.
