How to enable 3550 switch to allow its users to access internet?

I have a 3550 switch and there are 4 VLANs. Knowing that 3550 switch also has routing ability, I am wondering if it is possible for all 4 VLAN users to use this switch as a gateway to access internet?

If the 3550 is connected to a router then the answer is yes because you've got to have a connection to the outside world. The 3550 can do the initial routing for your vlans and basically default route them to the router and it'll push them out to the internet (if the router is config'd of course).

Do it right the first time, and there won't be a second time!

The Switch has the connection to another switch which connects to a router.
I configure a port on the switch to ,"no switchport." Then I connected that port to have an IP that can talk to the router's IP. I also created a default route on the switch.
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 MyRouterIP
However, my VLAN workstations still cannot access Internet.
What am I missing here?

Yes. I have the following VLAN
10.0.88.0/16
192.168.1.0/24
My 3550 can ping WAN IP but my VLAN workstations cannot.
The other switch is only a dummy netgear switch.

If you are connecting a Switch to another switch and wish to have more than 1 VLAN traverse the link then it must be trunked.

I would use 802.1q trunking. Remember that both ends of the trunk have to be configured the same or it will not work.

Actually my question is not connecting VLAN across different switches. I want to make 3550 the router (Internet default gateway) for all its VLAN users.
Right now the switch has access to Internet but somehow its VLAN users still don't have Internet access.

I have enable IP routing
Please check the below link and you will understand what I want to do.
I want vlan 11 to use 10.0.0.1 for the gateway and vlan 12 to use 66.209.104.49 for the gateway. However, vlan 11 and vlan 12 must talk to each other.

Basically, I find it is impossible to have multiple gateways and inter-vlan routing to co-exist in one network.

If necessay, I have more routers and switch that I can use to make anything happen. All suggestions welcome.

You should be able to just static route the internet route . If its not working you have a config problem and you will have to post the config so that we may help. Do all your vlans show active ? Do a "show vlan" , your vlans should show active and it will tell you what ports are in each vlan . If you are not seeing this you did not create the layer 2 vlan . You then assign the ip addresses to the layer 3 SVI
and do a no shut. Create your static route to the internet ,ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0.0 <far end link address>.
