so that one can open MSDN from within Visual Studio.

It normally is - if its compatible. I dont think MSDN 2003 is compatible with VS6 though. At least it doesnt know how to interact with it. The MSDN library shipped with your VIsual Studio is (naturally) fully integrated unless you explicitly didn't install it when you installed VIsual Studio.

i installed msdn april 2002 first then MS visual c++ but it couldn't detect msdn. when i clicked help>content from vc6, a dialog appeared,"The MSDN collection does not exist. Please reinstall MSDN".

Then i uninstalled msdn. i inserted vc6 cd and run its setup (without unistalling vc6). It prompted that vc6 is installed and gave option for msdn. i followed instructions upto where it asked for inserting msdn cd1. when i inserted that msdn april 2002 it rejected.

Now that both msdn and vc6 are installed but are not aware of each other.

Is there any utility which can let vc6 know msdn.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think VC6 does not understand any MSDN beyond January 2001...

Actually it is October 2001, but you were close. =-)
