My MS word documents open with the horizontal "markup" line
visible. I can go to "tools" and click "markup' and it goes away. However, if I try to convert to .pdf or when I reopen the document the markup line is back.
How can I get rid of it for once and for all?

Hi,
I've seen this happening to Word documents converted from v2003 to v2007. Is this the case for you?

If so, open it in v2003 if you can and accept all the changes.

Thanks, but I'm using 2003. Very frustrating because it seems like something simple to fix. Even when I convert to .pdf the marks are still there.

I found the solution which seems to work ok:

The best way is to turn off Track Changes altogether. Here's how:

1. On the Reviewing toolbar (the one with the Final Showing Markup list box), click the one with the blue checkmark.
2. Select Accept All Changes In Document. That should clear them all out. Now to turn off future ones.
3. On that toolbar, click the Track Changes button, the second from the right, the one with the page with red lines.
