When I right click on any Icon on my desktop I get the standard context menu. What's wrong with the menu is 8 commands repeat themselves. I'm wondering if there's a registry setting that can be edited to fix it or remove the extra commands?

The comands that repeat are:

Open With "an install from BAxBEx online"
(Break Line)
Add to Zip
Add to "Program Name"
Add and E-mail "Program Name"
Quick View Plus
Quick Print
Quick Compress
(Break Line)
Scan With Norton AntiVirus

Then it starts all over again, only difference is that where the "Program Name" is now, the name is abbreviated? It finish’s up with the normal commands.
Thanks for any info supplied

First, check for a virus.
If none are found, then do a scanreg/restore in DOS to select a previous date's Registry(assuming one's available that predates when the problem started occurring).
If no good, then reinstall Windows over itself.
If still no luck, then either accept it(assuming the menu selections work), or do a format and a clean reinstall.

Good advice, to which I'd add that you make a trip to to get the excellent freebie AdAware...which scans for spyware/ad trojans. You might even get one of the freebie trojan scans...I use SwatIt...there are lots of them.
The Babex comes from someone accessing financial info from the company Babex...probably. The QuickView stuff is the same...someone who uses the puter fancies themselves as a "day trader"?
I respect SKI's opinion, but my feeling is that it can be fixed without format/reinstalling.
Just my 2 cents

Suggestion:

If you have the original copy of the zipping program...then uninstall it, reboot to clear mem...see if it's still there.

If NOT THERE then try re-installing the zip software again.

If THERE then it's most likely a registry error somewhere and you may be able to track it down (operative word may).

If this just started out of the blue (you didn't install new software/updates) then it's most likely a virus as suggested above.

Hey Guys
Thanks for all the advice. Few things I have Norton System Works 2002 plus Norton Fire Wall 2002 all kept up to date. I run AdAware every day and practice really safe Internet surfing. I'm running a Stealth PC according to Gibson Research. I really don't think it's a virus. I got a feeling it was after I installed (Microangelo 5) an Icon edit program. Jasc Software makers of Paint Shop Pro make Quick View Plus and other Quick programs. Quick View Plus will display all types of files nfo, diz, and even an exe file. All the commands on the menu work fine it’s just a huge menu with 8 items repeating themselves when they really don’t need to. What I was hoping for is where this string of information is located in the registry so it could be edited if possible.
Thanks for all the help

pcbytz, i had a similar problem with all the unwanted and unticked entries in msconfig. I went into regedit and searched for one of the words that i wanted to delete. When I got a match I checked if the other words I wanted to delete were in the same key. I found the area in 2 searches and cleared my msconfig of unwanted entries. Maybe you could try that method as well with your unwanted entries in your context menu. Hope you understand my dribble

If you uninstalled a program shown in the right click menu and you want to remove it from there click start--run--type regedit and click ok. You'll probably find the right click option for it here:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\folder\shell

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\classes\folder\shell

Click the plus sign next to Shell and see if the option is listed underneath.

Before deleting any keys back them up first. To do that highlight the key and then at the top click Registry--export registry file--give it a file name and then save it somewhere. To put that saved key back in the event of a problem just doubleclick on the saved reg file and merge it.

You can edit the right-click context menu with one of a couple utilities - contextedit (from pcmag... total freeware but you have to go through a member joining process) or ContextMenu ControlFreak 1.0 (you can get at download.com, free to try $14 to buy).
