I need to do a report that looks like this:

Group A -------- --------
-------- -------- --------
-------- -------- --------
-------- -------- --------
-------- Group B --------
-------- -------- --------
-------- -------- --------
-------- -------- --------
-------- -------- --------

but with crystal the close that I get is:

Group A
-------- -------- --------
-------- -------- --------
-------- -------- --------
-------- -------- --------

Group B
-------- -------- --------
-------- -------- --------
-------- -------- --------

Bye the way what I have is Crystal 7
and I'm a Beginner with Crystal

Thanks for any help

very tricky to do...my way of doing this IF IT WAS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY...would be to display the results in a footer. The individual values would be stored in an array and printed using many display formulas.

Limitations:

1. very time consuming since the number of display formulas that have to be created and placed in the design form (the good news is that most of the work can be done by cloning)

the number of formulas depends on the size of the information displayed (each formula has a 254 char maximum)

so let's say each value was 10 chars max...then you could display 25 lines/formula max

2. the array storing the data can be only 1000 elements long.

If you are still interested we can talk :)

Can you give any more particulars as to what kind of data and how you want to display it?

You should be able to go into Format-Section and format your details with multiple columns. Make the settings:

detail width = 2.5
Select "Across then down"
Check off "Format Groups .."

I think this will do what you want. Suppress the Group Footer if needed. Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting

from the look of his example, it looks like he wants to fill the column vertially before the adjacent one is started....don't think you can do that the way you suggest Ken.

Funny, I took the details to go Across then down. Now that I look at it, the example is ambiguous.

However, if he selected "Down then Across" it would work that way also. CR will fill the first column completely and then start the second. Try it. Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting

yes it is ambiguous...haha...could be either way.

I have never used this feature before and now on looking I guess there is a lot of flexibilty there...

I have always used the formula/display method before so I continued to do so. Usually it is because this type of layout goes into footers for me so I have no option there.

learn new tricks every day...that is what is good about this site....it janks you out of tunnel vision occasionally.

That is half the reason why I hang out here. My very first day in TT I learned something new, and I was hooked. Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting
