I was just wondering what the LD and command are to do a call trace. I just want to do a trace from my extension 6746 to my co-workers extension 6799.
Thanks TRavis
In my shop, we put TRC buttons on our phones. When we get a call from a customer asking to put a feature on their phone, we press the TRACE button on our phone and the TN and DN are printed out on the TTY. This is especially helpful if there are multiple appearances of a DN.
works great, and is quicker, i use a trc button a lot due to users calling for a quick button change or just to get a key layout.. you do need mtc in cls and you can turn on trace allowed to a trunk in your cdb... great for making bars changes, instead of placing a call on hold and picking it back up to see the trunk group, just push the trc.. another note, i use a msg on msg off button on my phone for those calls with a lamp on and no msg
nutek10,
Call Trace can be used for many things. We mostly use it in our shop to be able to know exactly what TN a person is calling from so that we can make changes (like adding an extension to the phone, changing ringtone, turning off ringing, etc.). We could get the information from the switch by doing a PRT DNB and then PRT TNB, but why not just hit a button on your phone and get the exact TN you need, no guessing when there are multiple appearances of a DN.
We even used Call Trace (actually Malicious Call Trace)to track down a stuck button on a phone. The stuck button would cause the phone to automatically dial 4444 when the phone went offhook. 4444 was the number to set off our crash notification system (we're at an airport). We put the trace button on the phone that was receiving the call, traced the call to the TN, tracked down the TN to Cable pair and we unstuck the stuck button.
Another time, someone accidentaly dialed the access for the Paging system with a fax machine. We all know fax machines can be determined to get their fax through so we were getting those annoying fax sounds over the paging system. We got the TN for the paging system, waited by the switch with the TN already set in the correct load and the next time the fax noises came, we were able to find out where the offending fax was.
I'm sure there are other uses for trace, we just happen to use it mostly for convenience during moves and changes.
trace is my fav feature, field tech's call me in the switch room for a change, touch the trace button, make the change, they stay on the line until the change cuts them off..
the trace key is static, and so are all the trace commands except entc, that one now has a timer, in older "virgins" you just needed **** to stop a entc after the gotr command
btw, cop shows "keep him on the line while we do a trace" was fact prior to software driven switches, now, if you block your outbound clid, any switchman can still do a trace, in about 3 secounds, 911 dispatch gets the blocked clid anyway!!! score one for the good guys
it saves me lots of time. i will get a call from a field tech, trace, he'll call back trace two. do a swap and he'll move them in the field.. very fast very clean, glad you can use it. i could go to ld 80, but with a key on the 6 switchroom phones, it's quicker. we have one phone set up with auto answer on. call that one i we can answer handsfree even from the frame (60 ft).. i also use a wireless headset for talking to techs from the frame.. all good tools for the switchroom
you can also track changes by entering the following in LD 80: [red]entc ll ss cc uu tt[/red] (where ll ss cc uu is the TN and tt is the timis will track this tn.
