I have an IPO small office which is continuosly rebooting.

I have a "failed load code" message.

It does not respond with the boot loader info when typing ESC while power on.

I supouse tha is because i have no porperly set up the boottp in the manager.
I forgot the mac addres info.

My questions
How can I discover the mac addres ?
Whis is the starting release for upgrading to 4.2?

Thanks and best wishes

Just press the ESC button earlier
If it does not respond you are to late with pressing it

It should show the mac in vxworks

Hi There,

if u open manager and click on Bootp you will see the mac address,s of units that you have connected to in the past.

Tom

If you have an old Config, then in the Manager right click on System > Customize Collums > select MAC then the Arrow to the right.
Now you'll see the MAC ID.

It'll also more than likely be in the PC's ARP table, in "Run" box type CMD then arp -a. Now you have many ways :)

If you do not get to the cootloader prompt and the unit fails to run the firmware then you have a seriuos problem.
If connected to the DTE port and using a terminal emulator start pressing repeatedly on ESC and turn the system on.
If that does not work you can either send the unit for repair or throw it away.

When I power on the machine, typing repetively ESC, in the terminal windows apears:

And reboots again.

IN the manager I have the boot tp activated and the bin file from 3.2.999 release.

In my PC there is no reference to this machine (mac).

I have taken note of the mac addr. from the place where it was installed for a few days and I've created a new entry with it with 192.168.42.10 and another with 192.168.42.1.

The problem persist.

I dont know if this machine is able to be put in function.

Thnx

Is there a EVM CF card in one of the slots?

Remove it.

Sorry. English is not my language.
When I say type I mean put mi finger on the ESC key and make a litle bit presure until the stroke of it is finished. And repeat that action avery seccond. Not "write" the word ESC.

:-D

The problem is that this IPO has never been attached to my manager and I have no mac from it-

So you got Hyperterm running, connected to th IPO.
Press the ESC Keys power up the IPO and release it until it wont show any more new info.

Then typ AT + hit the enter key

It should return OK.

If you do not have the MAC address or the IP Address the IP Office should still be initialing a BootP request as a broadcast on the physical LAN. If you use a TFTP server like Solarwinds, (should work with IP Office TFTP also if you open it up) the BootP request should be visible with a alphanumeral after it like 000b3e34f804. This is the mac address. Be sure to have the firmware in the TFTP folder to upload once the connection is established. You can create an ARP entry in a command window, assign an IP address and then MAC address(ARP -s 192.168.42.1 xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx).
Ref:
ARP = Access ARP command in Windows
-s = Set Static entry
192.168.42.1 = Whatever IP address you wish to set
x's = the mac address of the IP Office - (syntax requires semicolons)

The BootP entry in IP Office should at this point, be irrelevant as the software bin file will start immediately due to the BootP polling. Once the system is on line the BootP will should be created when you upload the configuration for the first time.

I have done this on several systems when I forgot to write down te MAC address after wiping the flash.

BootP is great as it works on the link layer as well as ports 67 and 68 in the tcp layer.

Tha ARP table on you PC will only be filled with addresses your PC have successfully made a connection to.
This SOE unit never had a IP Address nor did it a BootP request as it never completed booting, so it will never appear in the ARP Table of the PC.
Looking to the first part of the boot messages i would say that the VCM module is broken and since that is a fixed part on the main board the unit has become useless and need to be repaired but Avaya will tell you this unit is "beyond economical repair" and will send it back to you as it is ( we have had a number of these units back with the same error ).
The only option left is : throw it away and find another unit on eBay or any other source for used equipment (did you buy this unit second hand?)
