Hi Everyone

We have a client who is part of a department that answers on local 1080. When he picks it up on his local 4040, everyone else in that department can press that line to hear and talk on the conversation? I cant find anything in CLS that allows this on his local.

I am guessing it was programmed long time ago. He said the issue happened since he worked and it didnt bother him until lately more people are in his department which kind of invades his privacy during a call.

Its my first time posting on this board and hopefully one of you folks can give me some pointers. I can PRT out the TN for you if it helps.

thanks!!

Print a DNB on the DN number this person is using. DNB the number that appears to have no privacy.

You will notice one of the TNs is an analog 500/2500

Determine why that analog 500/2500 TN needs to exist, because that is what has made the line a big party line. When you mix analog and digital extensions, privacy is removed. If the DN only appears on digital phones, privacy is by default.

If you remove that analog TN, privacy will be restored.

when I do a PRT on dn 1080, it gives me a TN with type 500.

Should i changed that TN to be a type 2000? I honestly dont have a clue why its type 500. I cant remove it as it is MARP for all extensions in that department

also, this doesnt explain why only his local 4040 is the one affected. All others in that department can have private calls when they pick up 1070

What is a local 4040 - is that an extension or a phone type, a room number? Street address? Numbers are important here. I will assume you mean 1080 and not 1070.

If DN 1080 appears on many phones and includes a 500 type TN - then I guarantee you when someone is on DN 1080, anyone else with DN 1080 can click into it. Just try it.

To get privacy back, just change that 500 TN to any 'new' digital TN, set the HUNT and FDN like the 500, and make it the MARP - Now OUT the 500 TN - then test.

@Gene (and others reading this thread) There is an impression that you cannot have privacy with a mixed 500 and digital/IP set configuration. You can do that. You need to program the 500 set first with a CLS=MCRA. You can then program the digital/IP sets with the same extension as a MCR key. This was originally introduced back in the Companion wireless days as those units were programmed as 500 sets and so you could have privacy when roaming the office on your Companion and not have somebody listen in on the call on your deskphone.

So apologies for being unclear.

As it stands, doing a prT on 1080 results in the first tn as type 500. There are also 9 tns attached to it including x4040s. Other users haven't had any issues but that doesn't mean it isn't there.

So my question now is how do I go about changing it o a digital Dn? If someone calls from outside will they still be able to reach that department once this is changed?

Thanks for help everyone

1080 is not a set. I believe it's just a phantom for that department

Unless the 500 set is sat on a desk in use, it is not necessary for the line to work.

Just as a test, change the dn on the 500 set to an unused number and make a test call, see if others can pick up after the first person takes the call.

If this now works as it should, MARP will now be on one of the digital phones, make sure you test all the functions (transfer to vmail etc) to make sure everything still works as you need it to.

Is x1080 programmed as an KEY x SCR 1080 on x4040 and others? You will need to change it from SCR to MCR to have privacy.

^yes all DNs associated with 1080 have key _ SCR or SCN.

Remove the x1080 appearance from all digital/IP sets. On the 500 appearance, change it to CLS MCRA (Multiple Call Ringing Allowed). Add the x1080 appearances back to the digital/IP sets as MCR (Multiple Call Ringing) or MCN (Multiple Call Non-Ringing) keys.

If you add that line as MCR, and there are two people in the department, then a 3rd call comes in, it will ring at a desk where nobody is sitting. We do not know how the line HUNTs today, and if there is a series in LHK, we will have broken that by making it MCR.

And Back to the original config, the original 500 tn might have been marp'd to route the call if no one answered, or by time of day, or if all were busy, or have been able to be RCFW. If that gets deleted, and it marp's on another phone, the ultimate destination will most likely have changed, resulting in routing errors.
I hope the user saves a printout of the original 500 TN....before changes are made...
