How to disable Legal notice messege on Windows start up? 1

Hello,

When I start Windows I receive a Legal Notice: "Using this system by an unprohibited persons is..." Only after I click OK and confirm this messege Windows continue loading.
I've received this computer from work and it looks like a script they put on startup. How can I disable this messege?

If your employer thinks that certain checks are necessary, it's not a very good idea to try to work round them. Not if you want to keep your job.

In a lot of cases, lawyers have decided that common-sense rules will not apply without a block of jargon only comprehensible to other lawyers. Consider the blurb you find at the start of any DVD, which you are not allowed to skip or fast-forward. It's main effect is to waste time for legitimate users without stopping actual criminals, but that's what we're stuck with for now.

is it still your company's property or did they surplus it to you?

ownership makes a difference.

I'll second the need to know ownership. If they gave you the system (you now own it), then I'd recommend a way to remove it. If not, I'd say keep dealing with it.

If you now own the system and they gave you the windows license you can format and install a clean copy of windows.If they didn't give you the license you should remove windows as it isn't legal.

They gave it to me but without the licence key. Does it mean that the only way to remove it is by formating the hard drive???

If they didn't give you the license for windows you don't own it and you should get your own. (as I see it legally (my opinion))

If they gave you the PC and it has a "Certificate of Authenticity" label (required for transfer per the EULA), then:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon.
Delete the data under "LegalNoticeCaption" and "LegalNoticeText".

Description - Specifies a text message that is displayed to users when they log on.

*****This text is often used for legal reasons, for example, to warn users about the ramifications of misusing company information or to warn them that their actions may be audited.*****

Make sure you are authorized to remove any such message otherwise the consequences may be serious, employment-wise?

I've deleted theses two keys but I still receive the pop up on start up....

LegalNoticeCaption and LegalNoticeText probable have to be present but with nothing in the data section just blank emptiness? Have you rebooted the machine for any changes to sink in? Why not use Group Policy?

I simply deleted these entries, haven't tried to leave them with empty values, do you think it shouls make a difference?
And yes, I've rebooted the machine after the changes.
Regarding the Group Policy: I'm sorry but I am not much familiar with this area in Windows...

Well, it still pop-ups even with empty values and to be honest: why would it work with empty values when it didn't work with no entries... Any other ideas ?

Do a search in the Registry for the exact Message your are seeing, and do a search for the exact Message window caption.

Are you inheriting this message from Group Policy every time you restart?

Is it really a Windows Login Message you are seeing or is it being started by some other application?

As to the "Why" question, I gave up figuring out that answer years ago, nothing surprises me about machines.

You were right, it was inherited from the Group policy.
After searching the text at registry and deleting the messege disappeared. Thanx a lot for your help.
