8X24 unit with Startalk B (4 port) DR5 software. I would like to disable the General delivery mail box completely if possible.

The configuration I want is as follows;
Operator --> Extention 44 (No phone at this extention)
Startalk port is 31

extentions 26,28,30 should ring until picked up when caller dials 1 from main menu

extentions 21,22 should ring indefinetely when caller dials 2 from CCR main menu

extentions 24,27 should ring if caller dials 3 from CCR main men.

The current CCR tree structure is as follows
main menu:

press 1 for "ocean"
dialing 1 transfers the call to ext 41(with no
phone connected) which causes
extentions 26,28 and 30 ring all at the same time as
they all have 41 as DN
press 2 for "Air"
dialing 2 transfers the call to ext 42 (no phone)
which causes extentions 21 and 22 ring
all at the same time as
they all have 41 as DN
press 3 for "Sales"
dialing 3 transfers the call to ext 43 (no phone)
which causes extentions 24 and 27 ring
all at the same time as
they all have 43 as DN
press 4 for "company directory"

With these settings when I test the system, as soon as I call the main number "general delivery mail box kicsk in"
and Caller is not presented with options but rather left with only one choice that is to leave a message in gdm.

Please help me on this issue

Thank you..

Sounds like one or more of your ringing phones has call forward/no answer and call forward/busy turned on and pointed at the voicemail DN. This will force all ringing calls to go to that extension's personal mailbox, or to the general delivery mailbox if no mailbox has been assigned to the extension. Turn off forwarding on your sets and it should act the way you want. The voicemail will follow the transfer return interval to direct unanswered calls transferred by the voicemail to the correct mailbox. Brian Cox

Thanks for your comments, I will check it out. But is there a way to disabel the gdm completely..

Well I tried that already but it says "Invalid password"...

You can disable the general delevery mailbox by logging in to feature 9 8 3 then select 6 and set the general delevery mbx there. JerryReeve

OK so F983-120000-6 will take me to general delivery mail box I can set it to N. I will try this and let you know..

When I do that will the phones be ringing forever until picked up (which is the behaivior I want all along)..

to have phones ring without being picked up you will have to meet two conditions,
ALL DN's that ring must have None selected under Terminals&sets->Capabilities->Fwd no answer. and also select None under Terminals&sets->Capabilities->Fwd on busy.

OK. extention 41(with no phone connected) is in ext 26,28 and 30's ringing DN . When caller dials 1 from the CCR main menu it is transsferred to ext 41 thus ringing on all those three ext. What will happen since 41 does not have a mail box(I don't want it). Is it possible that the caller to put back to main menu or transfer to the operator after a certain number of rings..

Yes, going that way you can set the call transfer callback timer to 3,4,5,6,or 12 rings under System programming->Feature settings-> transfer callback:

This will keep the ICS watching a transfered call and if no one answeres the call then it pulls back the call into the vm. Sorry for earlier post, I thought you didn't want the call answered by vm.

I think that a call transfered to a dn that has answer dn's on it will follow the forwarding of the phones that are ringing although when the forwarding happens (if to vm) it will go to the dn of the location last transfered to and not to the dn of the phone that was ringing. JerryReeve

But when 1 dialed from main menu and transferred to ext 41,
after like 6 rings I get "This extention has no mail box" message. Is is possible not to get this message and be forwarded to main menu or operator..

And in the mean time I want all other employee extentions be voice mail enabled. Like if any call is transferred to one employee's ext. It should goto his/her mailbox when not answered or busy

For example when one of the empleyees pickup the incoming call and forward it to another employee's extention if there is no answer or busy his/her email should pickup the call.

I am willing to make a bet that you have no mailbox 41 created. I think one of the phones that has dn 41 appearing as an answer dn is set to forward to vm on 6 rings. when this happens vm looks at the last numbers dialed, (41) and tries to activate the mailbox associated with dn 41. If there is no mailbox or the mailbox is not initialized then the call goes to the GDM.

you can try two things; disable the gen del mailbox or reduce the transfer callback to 4 and see what happens either way. JerryReeve

Yes there is no mail box 41 and I don't want to have it either. I am using ext 41 for the purpose of ringing those other 3 extentions all at the same time(26,28,30).

I will try your recommendations...

By the way is it possible to record a different greeting than the default one when "#" key is pressed for company directory. Because the prompt asks to search by last name and I want to do it by First name..

Thank you..

Have you tried to reduce the transfer callback timer? JerryReeve

Hello again,

When a caller presses 0 for an operator without operators phone ringing the prompt says "The Operator is not available to leave a message in general delivery mail box press 1...."

Normally ext=33(OPER) is been assigned in all other extentions ringing DN's so when ext 33 dialed (0 pressed) all other extentions should be ringing. But it does not happen.

Any idea why it is it?.

Maybe you have the operator ext disabled.Log in to F982 then enter password OPERATOR(67372867),You will see Atdt availble ,make sure is set to yes,and keep pressing next till you see Atdt ext,and enter the operator extension ,then press exit and try again it should work.I hope that help. Good Luck!

I checked that already many times. I notice that it happens when I put operators extention in ohter phone's ringing DN's. When the operator's extention is not assigned to any of the phone's it works fine. I also created and initialized all the mail boxes.

Except the extentions
41 with no phone connected(this extention is the ringing DN of 26,28 and 30),

42 with no phone connected(this extention is the ringing DN of 21,22 DN's),

43 with no phone connected(this extention is the ringing DN of 24 and 27)

I do not have anything definitive but have you tried changing the answer key from basic to enhanced or extended? JerryReeve

What do you mean by enhancing from basic to extended. How is it done?

Thanks
