Hi all,

I have an Asus eePC netbook with Win XP Home SP3, and I'm having some issues with the error messages:
The application failed to initialize properly ( 0xc000007b ). Click on OK to terminate the application.
This usually happens after I open the web browser ( FireFox ). I did some research and they point to either a virus, a .NET or other program uninstall. This is a new netbook, used from a limited account, so the virus possibility is very small, and .NET is unchanged.
I don't exactly know the cause, but I'm simply interested to disable these 0xc000007b error messages, because the netbook works just fine and I use it mostly for watching news/video.

Can I use some registry hack to disable these messages ?

Thanks

Well however small the possibility is of a virus, why not go here: and check anyways.
Also if you are having problems with Firefox, try downloading the latest version again and installing it. you could also try using IE8 to go to the website and run the anti-virus.

As to hacking your registry to turn off the warnings when an application crashes....not a good idea. The application would still crash, you just wouldn't see the error of it happening. Kinda like closing your eyes before a car runs into you....doesn't stop it from happening, just gives you a false sense of security.

You might be able to disable the cause, but the truth is that you are going to have to find it first.

Do you get this error from Safe Mode? If not try a clean boot and see if you can isolate the cause.

Do you get it from other users too? Try and test with another user even if you have to create one.

Thanks a lot rclarke250 and linney for your comments. I'll try your suggestions and I'll post my results as soon as I find something.

Thanks.

Indeed, the error messages were caused by a virus, which apparently got in when I was using my USB flash drive. Cleaned them and no more annoying pop-ups.

Thanks
